Portrait of an Addict as a Young Man

I just finished Bill Clegg's Portrait of an Addict as a Young Man.

Wow. Riveting. I had to close the book at times because I couldn't bear to continue reading. I wanted to scream, "No, Bill! Don't do it! Put down the pipe!"

For those of you who don't know, Bill Clegg is a New York literary agent who became addicted to crack. Portrait of an Addict is his memoir. I hope my agent doesn't start doing crack. For more about the book, visit the official website.

Anywho, I'm going to blog more often about the books I'm reading. But I'm going to wait until I finish them to do so because I'd say for every ten books I buy, I start seven and finish three. This has less to do with the quality of the book and more to do with my lack of an attention span. I get bored really easily, so if a book doesn't move forward quickly, I'm out.

I can relate to that--I have the attention span problem, too!!! I would like to hear more about any books you recommend. I read a lot, probably 3 books a week, but like you--if a book doesn't grab me & hold me, I will put it down and move on to the next.

I know what you mean....I do the same thing. But your books kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Have you read the book "The Help"? You would like it. I am reading Jen Lancaster's new book right now and I LOVE IT!!

I read an article by or about (don't remember) that guy in Esquire. It was crazy. I was wondering if the book was any good. I'll have to look for it.

Thank you for confessing that. I tend to finish books , but if they don't move along, I get bored and start another one, and then I have 4 or 5 going at the same time. And I don't have that much time to read! It ends up being like an inchworm on a marathon course, but eventually, I finish.

So, I bought this book the day I read your post. OMG!! What a crazy story...I read it in 2 days!
Keep the suggestions coming. There's only so many times I can re-read Save Karyn ;)
