Sugar-Free

Soooooooo... I've lost 13 pounds since I cut sugar and bread out of my diet. Woo hoo!

Also, I must thank Anne Good for sending me this kale recipe. I've made it about five times in the past couple of weeks. I'm obsessed with it.

Super Easy Kale With Pecans

Note: I use sliced almonds instead.

How long has it taken you to lose the weight? Congrats to you. Did you follow a specific program? I need some guidance!

I guess I'm following South Beach. But I'm not eating pork or beef. I'm eating chicken, fish and veggies.

so cutting out sugar and bread? Just bread or all carbs?

No rice, no bread, no grains. But I'm eating a gazillion vegetables with the exception of potatoes.

I also need to thank Anne for that recipe! I made it the other day and loved, loved, loved it (even when you factor in the part where I accidentally added an obscene amount of salt, resulting in water retention like you wouldn't believe). I will definitely be making it again soon. I'm normally not a leafy greens fan at all either.

P.S. I used pistachios.

I cut out all sugar, fruit and fruit juice (with the exception of the occasional whole apple or organic unsweetened applesauce) for 6 weeks and I lost 20 lbs! I mean that even if an all organic can of soup had any form of sugar in it, I would not eat it. I realized how quickly I mindlessly reach for candy if someone has it on their desk at work. I would pick it up or almost pick it up before I realized I was doing it. I have gained all that weight back. I know how powerful taking the sugar out of your diet can be by what happened to me. It does kill your sweet tooth which is a major help.

However, I wouldn't want to ban fruit and alcoholic beverages out of my diet forever. Do you plan on eating whole fruit in the near future? If not, when if ever?

I was wondering too about not eating any grain products, even whole grains like barley, brown rice, quinoa, etc. Have you learned anything about cutting all of that out of your diet and the long term results? I am just curious. Don't know what all your plans or intentions are but would love to know more.

I think it is great and amazing that your energy has increased, you've lost weight and you have a new mental clarity. Has it affected your emotions in a positive way too? I remember that I didn't need any coffee during that period of staying off sugar, I had energy to spare too.

Thanks for sharing all this!

I'm figuring out what to do about fruit now. I think I'll introduce cherries, blueberries, apples, etc. (fruits on the low end of the glycemic index) a couple times a week and see what happens. I don't want it to trigger a sugar craving, so that's why I'm going to do it cautiously.

As for grains, I'm going to continue to ban them until further notice. I'm eating tons of veggies so I'm getting a lot of fiber that way. And strangely, I don't really miss them.

My moods have improved ten-fold since my first post on this subject. I had a few weeks of a pretty severe depression, but that's ended. I have bounds of energy now and am really clear-headed.

The kale recipe has become my new evening staple. Gracias! And congrats, skinny minny!
