The Belted Maxi Pad

"You know what you should get? One of those belted maxi pad things.
Have you ever worn one of those?"
Mark

"Uh, no, they were a little before my time."
A party!

"Well, I think you should bring 'em back."
Mark

Oh, okay, Mark, I'll get right on that. (On second thought... nah.)

...and Mark is thinking about this because...? Why IS Mark thinking about maxi-pad-belt things?

Did he just re-read Are You There God, it's me Margaret? That's when I first remember reading about them and being horrified about getting my period.

January 20, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSyd

Maybe he just read it for the first time, Syd, that's why he's questioning Karyn about it.

That's a good point. Although it makes me sad that he didn't discover the glory of that Judy Blume gem before then.

I remember reading about the belt in Are You There God It's Me Margaret and just being confused (but was too embarrassed to ask anyone about what she was referring to).

I don't know how or why he became so interested in them. All I know is five minutes after this he was like, "How do they stay up?" I was like, "Why are you so interested in the belted maxi pad?" He's like, "I'm just curious, that's all..."

Those will NEVER come back no matter how cool you make them look, Karyn! HA!

Mark's a nerd.

I loved Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret... I sometimes still say it but I say It's Me, Cheryl. He never really answers though.

Mark is such a nerd. And all those Judy Blume books are just the best!! I want to read them again. Remember Forever and how taboo it was? My sister had it and I remember stealing it and just to read the sex part.

There are just some things you should never discuss with guy friends. This is one of em.

This so reminded me of Are You There God, it's me Margaret? Now I want to re read it. Not for belted maxi pad tips, but cause it was such a good book.

OMG, remember Ralph?!

So,so,so thankful that self-adhesive pads came along just in time for me. Even more thankful for tampons. I'm just sayin'.

Ah, Forever, I remember reading that for the sex part too and then sitting and discussing sex in a giggled, shocked sort of way with some friends that weekend.

He is a strange man if he thinks about maxi pads with belts - imagine how uncomfortable they must have been.

I loved the Judy Blume books. I still have a little stack of them on my bookshelf--I liked her books for adults too, especially "Wifey". What a great book!

Is Save Karyn going to be a movie or what!? I want to see it and it's not even out yet. I am so excited. Any updates!?!?
Anna Farris for book 2- pretty cool!!

I loved Judy Blume, too - I remember "Forever" for the same reasons.

I hate to admit this, but I'm probably the only person here old enough to have had to endure those belt things (when I was 12). ICK! Over, out, done! Those probably caused more women to swtich to tampons than anything. Thank goodness the sticky-pads were invented. Is that enough info for Mark?

Karyn,

What I think you should try is the Diva Cup. It has changed my life! I have introduced it to two of my girlfriends and they are angry that they never knew about it until so late in life. I have not used a tampon or pad in the four months since using the Diva Cup and when I am wearing it, it's like I'm not even menstruating. It is incredible. It's comfortable. It's green. It's cleaner than tampons/pads. You won't have to worry about clogging up toilets. It's fantastic!

I know I sound like I may work for them. I don't. I just love it that much and I am telling all my girls and female family members about it.

Aina
