Roland Burris

Jan 6, 2009 at 4:15 PM I kind of feel sorry for Roland Burris. I feel like he's that girl who tried out for the cheerleading squad and didn't make it, but she shows up for practice anyway in a uniform and is like, "What? What? I'm a cheerleader. What?" And everyone's like, "No, no, Roland, you didn't make the squad. You gotta go home. And—"
Yeah, that analogy doesn't really work. But you get what I'm saying, right?

I totally get what you're saying. I kind of feel sorry for him too.
I agree, I get what you are saying. Why ostersize the guy, I know nothing about him but maybe he would be okay.
I feel bad for him too; he is just a pawn in Blago's ridiculous scheme to say "F-U" to the people of Illinois.
Of course he never would have turned the offer down, and so I get where he's coming from: but Blago NEVER should have tried to seat someone in the first place. He needs to step down. (or off. I like the way that sounds better: "Step off, Blago!!")
P.S. It's hard to be an Illinois resident these days. Thanks, Rod!
Karyn, I follow you.
He's like that token cheerleader they call the alternate, the one that's banished to the sidelines with the much more action-getting toddler cheerleader who is the daughter/niece of the coach. And there he sits, waiting for a real cheerleader to be dropped on her head so that he can have his shot. His chance to show them all!
So then, once it happens he is dismayed to find that he's still stuck on the sidelines because ...
Oh we're just going to switch up the routines! The nine of us will be fine, really! Rebecca is expected to make a full recovery. The broken neck and the paralysis isn't that bad!<
And so he sits there, with his wilted little second hand pompoms and all the dignity he has stuffed into a crumpled Gatorade cup.
Oh wait .. I kinda went into my cheerleader story but, yeah. I get you.
LOL!
I felt bad, but the more I think about it, he had to know things weren't going to go smoothly. The Senate had said before he even went to Washington that if he showed up, he would be rejected.
Also, I don't understand what makes him think that a recommendation from a crooked "governor" is going to get him anywhere except in the middle of all this.
I think it was very naive of Mr. Burris to think this would work. Having said that, do we really want him as our Senator? What else is he going to overlook for his own benefit?
