What I Hate About New Year's Eve

Dec 31, 2008 at 7:15 PM You know what I hate about New Year's Eve? The pressure that you have to do something and, if you don't, you're a loser. I mean, everybody knows that it's an overrated night out and never as fun as one might think. But regardless of that, there's still pressure for you to do something—anything, really... just as long as you don't stay home alone.
So anyway, I'm going to dinner with a friend because I feel as if I should go out (and I haven't seen her in ages anyhow), and after that I'm coming home.
Happy new year!

Hey I totally agree!!!! It is bs that you need to go out and party just for New Years!!! It is storming here so it gave us a great reason to have a blockbuster night! Happy New Years!!
hmm you sound a bit lonesome. not trying to be mean here..just concerned. why not be with the fams? the people you love? why not commemorate it the same way you make it a point to celebrate other great milestones in life? You just don't seem like the anti-holiday type.
Yes..i know that new years is not a "holy"-day bit it is a special night at the end of each year that marks a beginning and end for all of us. time to reflect on the great times, the bad, the resolutions, the regrets.
I agree, now in my 30s...new years isn't as it was. Doesn't mean you necessary have to go out I guess...just make it special. I think that's what people mean when they insist on you doing SOMETHING for new years. At least that's what i'd like to think.
Seems like this year is different. Maybe it's the crap ass economy, maybe it's weather related, but most ppl I know are having a very low key night as well. Maybe ppl just want to see 2008 come to an end.
Regardless, I'm sure you'll have fun hanging with your friend or just cuddled up with Bev and Elvis at home. You don't need a big hoopla to ring in 2009. Just be safe and stay warm!
Happy New Year to you too. New Year's is overrated.
and I'm a stay at home loser.
LOL
;-))
You arent alone. We should all meet up on Facebook at Midnight and ring in the new year in the comfort of our own homes.
I'm a loser and I'm home alone with my animals. I think things can only be better in 2009.
I could not agree with you more! We grilled, had a few drinks, and now I happily have the TV all to myself while my husband naps on our couch (although, what the hell is THAT about? I'm about to wake him up!!) I can't stand crowds and I'm soo over the bar scene. I love staying home and doing my own thing. Happy New Year!
Up until about 5pm tonight, I had every intention of going out (7 mos pregnant) to a few parties ... but then I realized what for? I couldn't be around the smoke, and to be the only sober girl and have drunkies asking you the same four questions over and over while touching your uneasy belly suddenly didn't sound like a blast. So my husband and I, at the ripe old age of 25, stayed home with the cats and dog and watched Anderson Cooper with sparkling cider.
It doesn't make you a loser to not go out -- it means you just have different priorities. I for one liked our 2.5 person PJ party. :)
But yes, I do hope 2009 is a better year than the last.
Yep I agree, I didn't really care so much, there's so much hype but at the end of the day, it's only a day. But I didn't want to come back to work and have a lacklustre story to tell on what I did for NYE so I went out. It went well but I hate the peer pressure!!!
Happy New Year Karyn..I hope it's a great one for you.

I know exactly what you mean. Me and two of my flatmates didn't feel like doing anything so we decided to throw a party in our kitchen. Only two other people came (cos we didn't decide to do it until yesterday afternoon) but it was fun anyway, and we didn't spend loads of money. And at least we can say we DID something for New Year.
Hope you had a good one Karyn!
i stayed in and had a lovely game night w/ my bf and parents, hope you had a fabulous dinner!
i look foward to reading a new book from you this year! :)
Karyn, I just wrote pretty much the same thing on my blog. I for one will be thrilled to see 2008 go. Instead of resolutions I am rebooting my life this year. As I type I am thinking I had some good in 2008 I have a beautiful new neice and my puppy came to live with me in 2008. Ugh I am such a "glass half full" kinda girl.
I couldn't agree more- an intimate night out with a friend is more important than tons of time with revelers you don't know.
Happy New Year to you!
I completely agree. I hate New Year's Eve. I stayed in with family, played the Wii and we had fun. Happy New Year to you x
Karyn- I am SO WITH YOU on this. To be quite honest- my idea of a perfect NYE is chilling out at home, making a nice dinner to share with scott, and watching movies together.
All of this "you have to go out and do something" crap is for the birds. So not my thing!
Happy New Year! :)
It's true and it's just unreasonable.I just chilled for the first time not doing anywhere.Happy New Year!
if it makes you feel any better, i was asleep by 9:30 p.m. My partner and i had a big day so it couldn't be helped. The next morning was funny too- we were up bright and early watching the all the hungover people stumble home!
I love when I get up super early and see the drunks just coming home.
I agree! I am lucky that I have a group of friends that like to get together and spend the night watching movies and hopefully stay awake for the ball drop. It's been a tradition for years so I'm never alone on New Years Eve. I am very blessed when it comes to good friends!
Happy New Year Karyn! all the best in 2009!

So true. It is overrated and everything is more expensive.
Did you have fun with your friend?
I'm glad you came out though!!! It was fun to ring in the New Year with you :) xo
