Infamous
Jun 24, 2008 at 9:20 AM I watched "Infamous" last night, the movie about Truman Capote. It was released a little bit after "Capote" and didn't get as much attention, but, oh my God, how I LOVED it! Toby Jones did a knock-out job portraying Capote, and, even though I LOVE Phillip Seymour Hoffman, I think I liked his (Jones') portrayal more.
Anyway, it was really, really great movie. It's a drama, but it's also funny, and the costume and set design are amazing. Other people in it are Sigourney Weaver, Isabella Rosellini (who looks gorgeous, btw), Sandra Bullock (who plays Harper Lee), and Daniel Craig (who plays one of the killers.)
BTW, Truman Capote wrote both Breakfast at Tiffany's and In Cold Blood in the basement apartment of this house in Brooklyn Heights:
He talks about it in another book he wrote called A House on the Heights.
I always knew he lived in Brooklyn Heights, but never knew where. I just Google-mapped it...
...and, based on its location, realized that I've probably walked past it a million times. I'm going to have to go back now and take my own picture.
UPDATE: Ooh, lookie! You can rent the house!

I watched both of those movies in one weekend and I loved them! It was really interesting how differently PSH (who I ADORE!) and TJ portrayed Capote, and how much more depth the TJ film went into Capote's minute life details. Just really fantastic...
That house is absolutely killer, too. The staircase!!!

Oh, my gosh, that staircase! Reminds me of the house in "The Devil Wears Prada." Is NYC (and its environs) full of gems like these? What a work of art!
If you wanted to write another book, wouldn't it be fun to camp out there and wait for the muse to inspire you? I wonder what would come out?
I have Capote on my Netflix list but I'll have to add Infamous too now. Sounds great!
I love that photo of teh staircase.
i still haven't seen infamous, but 'in cold blood' is one of my all time favorite books. glad you liked it!
This is why I love reading your blog. :-) This movie had dropped off my radar(which is strange considering how interested i am in capote stuff)so I'll have to rent it this weekend. Thanks Karyn! (as an aside, if i ever get married i know where it will be now! would that be weird?)
I loved Infamous, and Capote. When I read In Cold Blood for the first time I was paranoid for about a month. Everything scared me. Probably one of the most powerful creative nonfiction books of all time!
I never realized (though I should have assumed based on B-fast at Tiffany's) just how....fragile (?) and fashionable Truman Capote was. Makes me wish I lived during his time and hung out with him. His voice is just awesome!
