Roller Skates

I want to get some outdoor roller skates for exercising. I'd get roller blades, but 1.) I can't stop in them, and 2.) Roller skates are so much more fun.

I've been looking online for a nice pair and I think I've decided to get the short ones that look like sneakers as opposed to the tall ones that look like ice skates.

So, this:

day 254: i don't want to take them off.

Not this:

Awesome Roller Skates at the Hub on Brook St.

I can get different colored wheels and fun glittery laces; I can make them really cute.

I like roller skating. I used to do it all the time when I was younger. I'm going to put them on my birthday list.

Roller skating sounds so much fun. I have always wanted to join a girls rollerball league, but I know my ass would just end up getting ran over.

My sister still skates as does her husband. The ones with the lower ankles are extremely difficult to balance on.

Email me if you want and my sister can help you with what skates are the best ones.

And don't forget the protection!!

Please get the 'high top'ones - those lower ones are really dangerous <-- I have an ankle xray to prove it!!

I love (and used to have!) the blue skates... so retro! This did make me wonder why big sneaker companies haven't gotten on this bandwagon. I would love for my favorite red diesels to be available as roller skates. Wit all the fun colors of shoes these days, you'd think there would be more available.

i have both blades and skates
but it's harder on the streets with skates .. i think it's bc of how the wheels are aligned ..

I just bought some skates for my nephew's birthday. I remember getting my first skates when I was younger...I don't think my mom could hardly get mme out of them. I almost always had those skates on. lol! She laughs that she's sure her toes have never been the same, as I rolled over them quite a bit.

omg, I was a GREAT roller skater, could spin, skate backwards, etc.... when I was 15.

I tried to roller skate a few years ago and almost killed myself from falling so much. Seriously, had bruises all over my back.

I could however, roller blade... for some odd reason. But, way too many years have passed to try either again.

Be careful, it's scary at first!

p.s where did you find the skates? what website?

If you are looking for a prebuilt vintage skate the Jogger is a good one $99.00:

If you want a custom sneaker skate you can buy any sneaker you want and have it made into a rollerskate at skates.com for $200.00. Go under hand assembled skates. I'm planning on having a pair of blue and white adidas sneakers turned into skates. The shoes look very similar to the ones in your picture. They are new shoes modeled after the ones worn in the 1972 Olympics. Adidas Men's Original SL 72.

By the way I skate with low skates and have not had any problems. Derby skaters, Jam skaters and Quad Speed skaters all use low profile skates so there is no need to avoid them.

I've been having that same thought. Does anyone know where I can get roller skates (that are actually cool) in nyc?

Hi Karyn. I just randomly came across your blog... I really like the picture of the short roller skates. Could you let me know where you got it as I'd love to seek permission to use it for something? Please get in touch asap - pocketpromise@hotmail.com

Thanks,

Roller Skating is such a fun activity for the whole family. A very good kid's roller skate is the "bullet". It can be seen on http://www.myrollerskateworld.com/bulletb100.html
If you are an older adult, it might be better to get the high top roller skates because they give better ankle support.

I have just bought my first pair of roller skates in about 20 years. I'm living in Ireland and it's not really a popular way of trying to get fit here, hense there are no roller skating facilities local for me. I'm living in Limerick. If anyone has any ideas please please post

Wowzerz! I actually have a pair of the blue and yellow jogger tennis~shoe skates, authentically vintage (just like your pic)...and freakin awesome! I have only worn them once. I prefer to wear my black speed~skates, with the 2 white stripes, I have them laced with 'fat' hot pink laces with starz on them. I had a pair of the hi~top white figure~skates but I gave them to a teen girl on Craigs..she wanted to learn to quad~skate. I also have a newer pair or Sketcherz tennis~shoe skates and though they are comfy, they just don't give the experience any WoW, ya know what I mean?? I love to Roller Skate, always have. I was going to try out for Roller Derby with my oldest daughter but she had some issues and postponed. Drats!! I have never learned how to use in~line skates and frankly...never want to.
