Cough
May 10, 2008 at 4:03 AM Ugh. So I'm up right now, in the midst of a terrible coughing fit caused by my allergies. This happens to me sometimes. I think when I sleep, I get (*gross word alert*) post-nasal drip that hits the back of my throat and causes it to get all sore and yucky.
Sorry to use so much medical jargon.
Anyway, a doctor told me a long time ago that that's what causes it. I have to remember to take Claritin or something regularly to prevent it.
Okay, I just took some Robitussin Allergy & Cough that I found in the back of my medicine cabinet, so I'm gonna try to go back to bed now.

It's no secret Elvis has had his own battle with this stuff. The lil bugger's beggin' for it.

Do you lose your sense of smell when you take Claritin? I took it for the first time about two weeks ago, for three days, and then I couldn't smell for a while. I stopped taking it and I'm gradually getting back my sense of smell.

I feel your pain--I have the same issues with allergies and I am really bad about remembering to take my Claritin. When my allergies get out of control I have to take an antihistamine like Benadryl which knocks me on my butt for hours. I hate it--first it makes me tired, then foggy, then spacey. Feel better!
Dr Oz has recommended a sinus cleanse which will help with allergies. Have you tried it?

As you know I have 2. I am also allergic to dustmites and ragweed. I'm torturing myself weekly with allergy shots but am told they will work.
They take over a year apparently but after 2 months of them I forgot to use my Flonase one day and then another. I was ok I thought until 2 weeks ago when I had an allergy attack. No biggie, I popped my Alegra but 3 days later I woke up with congestion behind my ears and the next day I had vertigo. I've never had vertigo but it was like being drunk while completely sober. Sounds fun but after a while you just want things to stand still!

fyi- sudafed is GREAT for drying up postnasal drip!
