Stupid Is As Stupid Does

Okay, I'm near tears right now.

My new sofa came and it's perfect. I love it. I couldn't be more happy with it.

Because I'm impatient, I needed to get my old sofa out of my apartment pronto. Rather than wait for someone to help me, I tried to move it myself because it's not that heavy. In the process, I wedged it in a very small doorway between my living room and kitchen.

It's totally in there, like I can't get it to budge an inch in either direction.

I don't know what to do. No one is home in my apartment building to help me.

I'm going to cry.

Karyn, if I were you I would call the furniture co. that you bought the sofa from and ask them if there is a furniture tech in your area that can come and do a "knock down," which is take the sofa apart, move the pieces in the room where you want it to go and put it back together. My husband does furniture repair and he does them all the time and it's relatively easy to do. If we lived up in NYC, I would have him go by right away, but unfortunately, we are in DC. The furniture company should be able to help you out, though. Don't panic.

Hang in there!

That happened to me once with a bed I was too lazy to break down. No, actually, I didn't break it down because I didn't have one of those special one-of-a-kind johnny wrenches or whatever they are called. Anyway, I somehow got it into the kitchen thinking I might be able to pivot it into the living room and then get to the door. That didn't work, and of course it got lodged in the doorway with me behind it. There was no way out of the kitchen, and I was trapped until my crazy roommate -- the reason I was moving out in the first place -- came home. I feel for you Karyn!! Good luck...

OH, GOD! I'd be freaking out! I'm with that first comment. Call the furniture company. Also, someone is bound to come home soon! Yikes.

Don't panic. Stay strong!

If I wasn't 2 hours away I'd be there in a jiffy to help.

If you still have it there tomorrow, let me know..

It's ok....just take a break and come back with a fresh approach. And sorry to to giggle but do you remember the episode in Friends where Ross buys a couch and him and Rachel are trying to put in his new place. "Pivot, pivot..." Find the episode on Youtube if you don't own Season 6 or 5 possibly and have a good laugh.

After looking at the picture again, it doesn't seem like anything is holding it there.

May I ask where were you going with it? And what are you going to do with it? How long is it?

I WAS looking for a cheap sofa, I'd take that one off your hands for a small price, but by the looks of things you might have to break it.

Pivot...pivot...pivooot! I am sorry but that is all that I can think about. Sigh... I miss Friends.

Anyways, take a deep breath and have some lemonade. No need to get yourself all worked up. Do you have like a super or someone that you can call to help? Check the phone book and see what the closest furniture store near you is and perhap they can do a good deed and help. Are you able to leave your place and see if neighbors are home?

Umm do you ever watch The New Adventures of Old Christine???? I never do but randomly saw an episode last week and the exact same thing happened to her! Ah! Crazy!

Anyhoo, I hope someone comes to your rescue and helps you move the couch.

Ketchup Queen and Marisol...I am now watching that episode. It always amazes me how any real life situation brings me right back to Friends. Karyn: Keep us updated on the couch issue and for now just "Pivot, pivot". Sorry, the episode made me do that.

I once got a sofa stuck on some stairs, I was trying to get it to a bedroom on my own!

I had to call a house clearance firm to come and remove it before my husband came home. He didn't notice that it had gone for over a week ;)
