Graphic Novels

I went to the big chain bookstore in my neighborhood last weekend (Dear BookCourt, I didn't buy anything) and I was amazed to see how big the section was for graphic novels. I was even more amazed to see that it was filled with people—mostly teens—checking out the goods.

I'm telling you this because I just read about Jonathan Ames' new graphic novel, The Alcoholic, in today's NY Times.

Btw, Jonathan Ames lives in my neighborhood and I ate lunch next to him once in a cafe. (But I didn't say anything; I'm a chicken.)

Anywho, can you see yourself reading a graphic novel as an adult? Is this something I should be thinking about?

Hmmm... maybe something called "The Adventures of Elvis the Bush Cat and his little sister Bev."

Or, perhaps this is the perfect venue for "The Adventures of Picky and Choosy, My Unborn Children."

Maybe the graphic novels are causing the ninja and knife ads.

Personally, I am not into the idea of graphic novels. I prefer to imagine my own pics. thank you very much.

Normally, no I would not be interested in the Graphic Novel. But you are the second author this year talking about them. The first was Diana Gabaldon who writes the Outlander Series. I've read her series multiple times. (I know, get a life but I love them.) And, part of me is interested in reading the graphic novel because I want to see how she envisions Jamie and Claire- the main characters. On the other hand, I don't want her to ruin my visions of them. Such a quandry.

Now... for you. I love Elvis and Bev because you always have fun stories for them. So I would be interested in the Adventures of Elvis, the ex-con and his ho-sister, Beverly. HA. jk. Not about the interest.

Not so interested in Picky and Choosy though. hmm.

Oh my. I thought you meant graphic to be nudey rudey, and i was wondering why you were surprised the teens were hanging around that section.

Let me know if you're ever in need of an illustrator... I'd definitely love to take on the challenge of bringing Picky and Choosy to life (uh, on paper that is. The rest is up to you, and kinda personal.)

Seriously though - any other ideas you have would be fun to explore! If you want my email address just say the word and I'll get sketching!

I dont think you need to get anymore graphic on picky and choosy really! Elvis and Bev would rock though, you could compress all those little conversations you make of them into a novel, using real photos!
