One Of These Things Is Just Like The Other...

Someone sent me the link to this book, Secrets of a Former Fat Girl, saying the cover looks just like 20 Times a Lady.

Ha ha—it does! They both have the same notebook background, font, and pink and yellow accent colors. (The blue along the right side of mine is actually part of a map on the next page.) I think that font is popular right now with book covers because I was at the book store this weekend and kept seeing it everywhere.

Anyway, has anyone read this book? It looks good. The author, Lisa Delaney, is an editor at Health magazine. From her website:

Once upon a time I was a fat girl...

I thought like a fat girl, acted like a fat girl—oh yeah, and I looked like one, too. But not any more. Through trial and error (lots of error!), I dropped 70 pounds and said good bye to the fat-girl image I had of myself. For almost 20 years now, I’ve been living like the powerful, confident, worthy woman I always was inside. And I’m ready to share my secrets with you. All the advice, information, inspiration, and motivation you need is just a click or two away!"

Hmmm... I may have to check this out. I just started a diet yesterday.

I am still waiting to get your books in the mail. I just finished The Makeup Girl by Andrea Semple and I'm halfway through Larger Than Life by Adele Parks. Read either? Heard of??

I bet she has a lot of good things to say (she lost 70 pounds, and she's willing to explain how)

BUT, I have one problem with this sentence:
I’ve been living like the powerful, confident, worthy woman I always was inside.

Can big women now be powerful? Are they worthless? Geez.

I see what you're saying, but I agree with her.

Of course big women can be powerful and feel worthy, but I think society (or some people in society) has a way of making you feel less worthy when you're overweight. Yes, I know that self-worth is the way you look at yourself and is therefore ultimately under your control, but it's hard to not internalize things that are said to you, things you read, hear, etc.

Also, when I'm thinner I feel more powerful. It's an energy thing that I don't just feel physically, but mentally, too. It translates into everything I do. I think more clearly, I'm more effective when I work. I think the reason for this is that I make better food choices (eat less sugar, etc.) when my weight is down, and these choices that affect my mind and emotions.

My weight has been up and down in the past, so I'm not just speculating, but speaking from experience. I realize that my experience isn't everyone's experience, it's personal, as is the authors.

I agree with Karyn..been there myself. Lowest weight being 120 now at 157. I would take the 120 any day. Just being honest. When my pants can button I feel lighter and feel better. And health wise I know I'm better for it, fat is just unhealthy. And of course big people can be powerful and ARE worthy, but the facts are in our cholesterol levels.

That sounds like a book I'd totally read too, and yeah, I started a diet yesterday too--after all, it WAS MONDAY!

That book is intriguing. Another good one is "tales from the scale"

what's the name of the font? it's cute. LOL

I read an interview with the author of that book and she seems legit. I too feel better when my pants fit. I'm in the "up" phase of my fluctuations now and it sucks, because losing weight really takes a lot of self-control and discipline. Any tips for how to stay motivated? I was horrified when I went to the doctor and realized I had gained 20 lbs in the past year or so (from 120 to 140). Aside from a few clothes feeling "snug" I hadn't really noticed.

hey Karyn, who does your book covers? i liked the art in the 20 Times a Lady and also the US version of Save Karyn.

I think you should get a universal book cover style and font, kinda like Marian Keyes books. Seems like she has the same artist draw her cover art everytime, and from afar you can tell it's a Marian Keyes book. Just a thought!
