My Toe

Why does screaming make us feel better?

I was moving furniture this morning and accidentally dropped a brick on my toe. Don't ask how this happened or why I even have a brick in my apartment in the first place—bottom line is I'm a huge klutz. I shouldn't be allowed to move furniture. In fact, sometimes I think I shouldn't be allowed to walk amongst the people.

But back to my toe.

I cannot begin to tell you the pain I'm felt (and am still feeling) when it got smashed. I tried to deal with it by deeply breathing in and out, but after about a minute or so, the only thing I was capable of doing was screaming. And surprise! The screaming helped.

My toe is swelling up and turning black and blue right now. It's the little one next to the big one. I don't think I broke it though. Well, maybe I did—I wouldn't know a broken toe from, err... an unbroken one—but I'm going to wait it out before I seek medical attention.

Bev and Elvis don't know what to do with themselves right now. Hearing and watching Mommy scream in pain did not sit well with them.

I'm going to scream again.

UPDATE @ 10:25AM: I've stopped screaming. Elvis is over my drama. Beverly is still staring at me intently.

Ouch! I hope you feel better!

I think the screaming is theraputic, it takes your mind off your toe!

Ouch! If you can, stay off of that foot and ice it. Hopefully the swelling will go down.

From personal experience after dropping a marble bakers slab on my small toe:

If it's broken, the only thing that you can do is tape it to a toe next to it to keep it "stable" and wait it out.

If it's swelling up with a blood blister, you need to have someone drain it.

Hate to be gross, but I hope you don't lose the nail.

I want to see a picture of it. Didn't you share a photo when you sliced your finger.

Hmmm... just realized you are a klutz.

I remember once when I bashed my head on an open cabinet and feeling like screaming and crying, then I felt like, "Well, who's gonna hear and care?" But it does feel good to scream, and it does make you feel better to scream and cry, so go for it!

feel better.

OUCH!

I feel for you...

I hope your toe recovers soon...

Coz X'mas and New Year is just around d corner and you can't be out partying with a sore (broken, I hope not!) toe!

Uhhhh, hope you get well soon. Maybe Bev or Elvis could give you some ice to let the swell go away :D

Er, Karen, I hate to say this, but it's probably/definitely broken if it's swollen up and turned purple. Karen is right, ice it, keep it above heart level as much as you can for the next couple of days, and tape it to the small toe next to it to stablize it. I am not a doctor, but I have seen enough broken toes in my time ! And you can spare yourself the co-pay, because a doctor would just tell you the same thing(unless it bubbles up into a blister - then you have to go to the doc)!

Hope you're doing better. Screaming does help!

By the way, how are your feet doing? I remember you talking about problems you were having with your feet (maybe this summer?)

I thought of you this morning when I was looking online for a cute, yet comfortable, pair of boots. Why is it so hard to find comfortable boots? Have you bought a new pair for this year?

Sounds broken. Get thee to a doctor, you wouldn't want to lose that little squealer would you?

PS. Am I the only guy that finds your writing amusing and like to read your ramblings? Am I the only guy at this tea party?
