My New Dress

Hello everyone! I just got back from Bloomingdale's and got a new dress for my party. Yay! It's by Trina Turk. Here are two pictures of it:

It's cute, right?

I wanted to show you both pictures because I didn't get a necklace to wear with it like the chick in the first pic is wearing. (I didn't think a necklace would work with it, honestly, and was surprised to see the model on TT's website wearing one.) Instead, I got these fabulous earrings and a chunky gold bracelet:

To give you an idea of how the earrings look as opposed to a necklace, I took a picture of myself with my computer. It's not the best, but it should do.

What do you think? Should I go back out tomorrow in search of a necklace or do they work? I'm thinking I like the earrings.

As for shoes, while I would've loved nothing more than to drop a few hundo a new pair, I resisted the urge and decided to wear these lovely Chloe heels I got last year:

(To all the men out there with shoe fetishes... you're welcome for the boner, you little pervs. To everyone else... yes, I'm pale. It's winter.)

So, what do you think about everything?

Please note before you comment: I have ZERO credit card debt, so no lectures, please. I rarely shop these days and live in leggings, jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, etc. It's okay to treat yourself to something nice every once in a while, which is what I've done on this fine November day. Besides, I'm a woman, dammit. Indulging my sensual side with sexy heels and a killer dress every now and then is necessary. (I know I didn't need to write this disclaimer, but I don't want you all to think I'm slipping back into my old ways.)

VERY mod! I like it! Are you going to wear your hair down for the party? Those earrings would probably rip my ears off my head, but if you can take it then more power to you! I LURVE those shoes.

The earrings are really heavy. I think I'm going to replace the top hook with a clip on from a cheap pair. Or I might put a stud through the hole at the top where the hook is. It will be more secure that way.

My hair, I'm thinking of wearing a high pony tail and putting lots of volume at the top of my head, or wearing it down. I'm not sure yet.

I'm loving the jewelry but I'm a bit iffy on the shoes. Right now I feel like they are a bit much since the dress has that fabulous mod look and the jewelry is big and junky and I feel that since the shoes are junky too that it will all be too much. Can you take a pic with the full outfit? TT

I can't seem to take a full length b/c my apartment isn't big enough. (Ha ha.. welcome to New York.) No, it is, but I have to move my computer and then move a table. I'll try to do it tomorrow.

The shoes aren't that big. They're not like huge platforms and don't seem to overwhelm the dress.

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterKaryn

very nice.... love the shoes, all very mod.

I say stick with earrings and bracelet, I don't like the pic with the necklace, and I wasn't clear if you were planning on adding a necklace to the mix or doing it instead of the earrings... but I don't think you could wear both, it would be too busy, but if you were to wear only one, go with the earrings, I think the necklace takes away from the dress.

And I say hair up, it will show off the earrings better and the ponytail with volume would go with the whole mod look

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJen

No, not both. I didn't even consider a necklace when I was out b/c I, too, thought it would take away from the dress. And I was surprised to see the necklace with the dress on TT's site.

I like the earrings much better than the necklace. And if you put your hair up, that would show them off and you would look fab!. Smokey eye and nude lips perhaps?

Can't wait to see the whole outfit!

I wouldn't wear the earrings, to be honest. They're nice but they sort of distract from the dress and your face. Do you maybe have something more 60ies as for the earrings?

Looking forward to see the full outfit picture :-) Looooove the shoes!

I like the dress! The earrings I'm not a fan of but I'm sure it will work. Your hair should be in a low ponytail with a nice clip even low bun? Anyway just a thought...

Love the dress, love, bracelet, love the shoes. I don't think the earrings go too well with it though. They are too big and not simple enough. Though they are lovely I think they may go better witha a plain and simple outfit.

I LOVE the ensemble! That dress is awesome, and the shoes are fab.

The earrings do look super heavy. You may have to attach them to a headband rather than your earlobes so you can be comfortable! :) I agree that they may distract a bit from the dress, but if you wear your hair up I think you can pull it off with no problem. Fun outfit!

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterMelisa

Gorgeous, gorgeous.
The earrings are a bit heavy and I would attach them with a clip for comfort if you can. But you are going to look fabulous.

tres, tres chic Karyn!

I hate to be the only one to say this but I don't really like the dress. Love the gal that's gonna be wearing it though :)

I love the idea of a pony with lots of volume, so cute! And I agree, a necklace doesn't really go with the dress! Have fun!!

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJenny

I like this alot--I especially love the sleeves. I really like the earrings & the Chloe shoes. I agree--this dress does not call for a necklace. Great choice!

I'm with anonymous. I'm not crazy about the dress. If the mod pattern were all over it, I'd like it, but as is, it reminds me of one of those t shirts that's made to look like a skeleton. The shoes, however, TO DIE FOR!!! But I'm sure you'll slay 'em at your party. You are a cool chick that can transcend a mediocre dress. Def smokey eye, nude lips and voluminous high pony hair... I'd like to see another pair of earrings for comparison... Maybe something real costumey/plastic? Or not so "solid" looking...

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

okay - the shoes - entirely too cute for words. i want them.

the dress is very cute. but i don't think the earings are a good match to it. i would go for a dangle that is more simple and sheik.

but then - i'm in the midwest and know zip about NY fashion - so i'm not sure my opinion can be trusted.

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered Commentergfygrl

I love the whole thing. The dress, earrings, shoes. Wear your hair in a mid-head ponytail with the volumized crown and the earrings. I love it.

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterShoeaddict

Really cute, very mod dress. It does not need a necklace. I think peopel go overboard with accessories, less is more!!! Everything looks good, have fun and post party pics!!

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

The dress is FANTASTIC. The earrings seem a little more romantic/holiday sparkly than modern. I think it'd look great with a contrasting bright color earrings since the dress is black and white... or just solid, chunky gold sort of like the necklace the model is wearing, or the bracelet.
Then again, everyone rocks their own style. So, if you think it works...run with it! Have fun!

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered Commenter20-Something

I'm no fashionista, but I think the dress is marvy. I think it would look good with a small silver chain of some sort. Sort of a contrast to the earrings.

No foot fetishes here. Are you offended? So no boner. Sorry.

No need for a disclaimer, I'm with you (now) cash is king!

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterFrank

Looks great, love the whole outfit. And your idea for the hair is perfect.

Have a great time!

Fab! I like the accessories, def. hold off on the necklace--that will be TOO much. It seems to fit the Supper Club party vibe that I got from the photos: artsy but fancy, sophistocated but not stuffy.

and laugh at your disclaimer--never for one second did I think you were going back to your old ways! at the mention of bloomie's, I did have flashbacks of the buy and return scheme, though.

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterSense to Dollars

I love EVERYTHING and ADORE the earrings. Not a huge fan of the shoes though...I would pair classic black stilettos with that outfit, JMO though. Hot outfit either way! ;)

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer

Karyn,
I would personally go with some large silver earrings instead of gold. And a silver bracelet. I love the dress and the shoes and definitely think no necklace. You're gonna rock that joint!

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterjane

Your hair sounds very Shania Twain. I am loving it.

I like the dress very very much. Not so hip on the earrings. They kind of look like you are trying to communicate with beings from another planet... I would go a little smaller, but dangly is a-ok.

Shoes are a go!

Since everyone else decided to weigh in, I'll throw out my opinion too!
Love love LOVE the dress, but who was it that said a the key to being fashionable was looking in the mirror before you leave and taking off one accessory? I often abide by that. :) That being said, I think an updo counts as an "accessory," plus the earrings and the bracelet. I'd nix one of them. You don't want to distract the eyes of all those that stop to admire you with too many things!

Recent recent, first-time commenter. First of all: Love this dress (and the shoes for that matter)--I love the mod look! Second: I totally agree with your jewelry choices since that neckline on that dress w/a necklace would just be too overwhelming. Lastly, I'm so envious you are attending that party. You MUST give a full re-cap!

Can't wait to see photos of how it all turns out on the big night!

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAshley

So seeing as I am the queen of dressing up for semi formals and proms, here is my advice:

a) you don't need a necklace. That neckline on the dress doesn't require it. Just huge earrings and a nice bracelet -- which I also approve of! LOVE LOVE LOVE The earrings.

b) i adore your shoes. I long to wear shoes like those, but seeing as i'm already an abnormal giant -- big heels make me look massive.

c) to all the assholes out there who might attack you and your spending -- EVERYONE is allowed to spoil themselves every once and awhile!

d) how long is your hair? if medium length I would totally try and pull off like loose wavy curls pinned... almost like how heidi klum did at this years emmy's with her killer red dress.

Have fun at your ball cinderella!!!

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterKiki

The dress is fantastic! It looks much classier without the necklace. You have great taste. And your hair up would look great.

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

YAY You hottie!!! The earrings look fab! The shoes look great, and you damn well better post a photo of the whole package!!!

That first photo of the chick with the necklace--ewww that necklace is uggggglieeeee, if you ask me, however, what do I know about style, not much, but I didn't think it worked!

You are probably out right this moment looking STUNNING and I want to see photos of the whole put-together fab (or is it PHAB these days?!) package!?!?!

You go girl!!!

And did I mention those are some F-M-Ps and you better get yourself some action tonight!!!!

ANd hi up there to Jules who is the first commenter!!

i LOVE those shoes!!!!!!! they're amazing!! i want them!

dress is very cute. i probably wouldn't wear it, but it's still cute.

hope you had fun!!!

November 29, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I love the dress, the shoes, everything..My only beef is that (and maybe it's because we can't afford them at this time, due to a newborn) is the price of the outfit. I totally understand the lifestyle and all that is involoved. I guess since having the newborn (and buying pampers swaddlers instead on the new Prada purse) i'm jeaulous. I WISH I HAD A NEW GOLD CHUNKY BRACELET..WAAAAAAA! Love your blog! (Wouldn't give up the baby for nothing though..lol)

LOVE the shoes. LOVE them. The dress is cute, too. but I see now that you got a different one.

going back to read the rest of your entries.
