My 2007 New Year's Resolutions
Posted on
Jan 1, 2007 at 11:34 PM
Jan 1, 2007 at 11:34 PM Lose 10,000 pounds. I'm not bordering on obese, I am obese. Stop being so dramatic.- Lose 50 pounds. (I'm going for Nicole Richie thinness.)
- Exercise more.
- Eat less.
- Be a better blogger.
- Update every day.
- Answer all of my email.
- Read all the books I bought last year but never cracked open. (Do you all do this, too?) Among them...
- Queen of The Oddballs by Hillary Carlip
- Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster
- Blindness by Jose Saramago
- A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby
- Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin
- The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella
- Marley & Me by John Grogan
- Smashed by Koren Zailckas
- Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs
- Increase productivity:
- Work during normal working hours like everyone else. (This can be difficult for a writer.)
- Work from someplace other than home.
- Stop surfing the 'net for the latest celebrity gossip. (Seeing shots of Britney Spears' coochie has done nothing to enrich my life.)
- Turn off IM during the day.
- Stop checking my email every two minutes.
- Get serious about finding the love of my life:
- Do something social every week. (This does not include going to my friends' apartments to watch TV and drink wine. I must go to NEW places and meet NEW people.)
- Go on as many dates as possible. Not only will doing this increase my odds, but it'll provide me with loads of new material, which will help me with...
- Number 5... I'll be more productive when writing because I'll be drawing from personal experience as opposed to making things up.
- Number 3... I'll be a better blogger because I promise to share all the details of my bad dates with my blogging friends. (The message here to my future dates is: Treat me right, spare yourself the embarrassment.)
- STOP AVOIDING. This is by far one of my biggest downfalls. I avoid many things in life, from phone calls with people I'd prefer not to talk to, to filing my quarterly taxes on time. NO MORE AVOIDING. It only hurts me in the long run.
And what are your resolutions?
Happy 2007!

haha...I like your resolutions!
I got 7 myself over at my blog...what's with d number 7?!...many of us having 7 of those dis year... :)
I can't believe you haven't yet read
Bitter is the New Black,
The Undomestic Goddess and Smashed! They are all fantastic books! You will totally enjoy them. Have a great New Years!
I am so happy to know that i'm not the only person who buys books and never reads them! I LOVE to read and hardly find the time! AND that I'm not the only person who check their email every 2 min.
Maybe I'm closer to normal than I thought! Thanks Karyn!
Hmm... If I had to have resolutions, they would be:
1. Stand up for myself more. I'm constantly backing down to keep the peace.
2. MOVE OUT OF MY MOM'S BASEMENT! Hello?! I'm 27 and this is just ridiculous. ...now where do I move to?
3a. Finish my 2 year degree.
3b. Figure our a major.
4. Pay off at LEAST one credit card. C'mon now, how hard is one?
Happy New Year everyone!!
xo Angie
Yes, I so relate to your resolutions. These are mine:
- Since I keep telling people I am ‘a runner’, I should actually run. Three months on, three months off isn’t working! Goal this year: half a marathon.
- I too keep buying books knowing I don’t have the time to read them. I am always afraid the book will be sold out by the time I am ready for it. How impossible is that?!
- Turn off the PC in the evening, when I get home from spending 8 hours behind one. Relax, enjoy one of those books for example. New email-messages will still be there in the morning.
- Stop thinking the love of your life will find you on the couch at home (or on a friend’s couch). Get out, do more.
- Use my museum-year-card more than one time a year. The whole idea was to get out and experience new cultural things FOR FREE! So ‘I am a student, I don’t have the money’ is no excuse.
- Stop being so emotional. Since a year or so I have become such a crybaby. After years of blocking out my feelings I have decided to let it out. Now it seems I can’t stop. It's so embarrassing sometimes.
- Try to fulfill at least one of these resolutions.
HAVE A GREAT ONE EVERYONE!
Love your resolutions. I don't know about the Nicole Richie thing, but. . .
Oh, and you totally have to read Marley & Me! But make sure you have a box of Kleenex handy. Great book!!!
Happy New Year girly!!
You have to read Bitter is the New Black. I have never laughed so hard at an entire book in my life!
My resolution this year is to spend a little more time on myself in the mornings to look more put together than I really am.
what resolutions? i have a ton. i just don't want to write them down for fear of not being able to do any of them.
ps. i have got to get over this fear to start with. :0)
Happy New Year!
No resolutions, just hopes. I find that when I make resolutions they don't come true, when I just hope and they don't come true I won't beat my self up about it as much.
glad to see i'm not the only one obsessively checking my email! you have to start reading marley and me, the undomestic goddess and something borrowed (then read her other two books, they are really good). good luck with the resolutions!
I read Undomestic Goddess, that's a good book, and I so adore Emily Giffin books. After "Something Borrowed" you definitely have to pick up "Something Blue"...but ok I won't pressure you..take your time reading...heheh
Wow, that's a lot of resolutions. I posted mine in a comment on my friend Dave's blog over on myspace.
I too buy books and have yet to read them.
I didn't make an resoultions this year - because I know I never see them out :o)
i do the same thing with books.
p.s. "long way down" is great. just finished that last week. :-)
YES! i so buy books and then get caught up in others...
but one book i did purchase and read - right away - was marley and me.
do it - you'll love it! so cute and makes me want a dog!
damn studio living :)
Karyn... I think we are twins separated at birth. My resolutions included the usual "lose weight". But I included "be more organised - and most of those are the same as your productivity points!" - and I had similar 'business/work' goals as well! I think the last book I read was "Save Karyn"... and that was years ago. So I don't have reading goals. Thankfully I've found the love of my life, but I have made it a goal to ensure I keep him! Happy New Year Karyn... and hope all your goals are fulfilled.
Also a HUGE fan of Emily Griffen. She isn't a one-hit wonder with 'Something Borrowed'; her other two books are amazing as well. i didn't think sophie kinsella's book lived up to my expectations after the shopaholic series. just my take.
i resolve to find a way to either: avoid/end the conversation with that wierdo sitting beside me on the airplane OR figure out how to de-wierdo myself from such situations. i DON'T CARE that your aunt had a cauliflower-shaped growth on her ear. i mean, i feel bad, but ok, really--i'm not going to send a card to her, lady/man.
S.T.D. (Sense to Dollars. Yes, i just realized i picked a VERY unfortunate name for a blog, of abbreviation's sake.)
p.s. Lurve your books! i also resolve to read your entire body of literary works. i celebrate your entire catalogue.
I have the same problem with avoidance, if it can be done tomorrow, why do it today? that will all change in 2007 of course when I will be proactive about lots of things....well, here's hoping anyway!
I also have a stack of books on my shelves that I have yet to read, 3 4 2 at Waterstones is just an evil way to get me to spend more money so this January I am going to be frugal and stay in an actually read some of the books I have stockpiled. I'd like to say I havent had time to read them as I've been out on so many fabulous dates but sadly that isnt the case!
Will also be hitting the gym for a six pack like Britney used to have and aiming to meet at least one eligible batchelor who is not emotionally unstable and appreciates an independent lady!
Here's to a fabulous 2007!x
Marley and Me is such a great story! Read it on a cold day. The beginning of the book takes place in Florida so that will make you feel warm and the end of the book is very heart warming. Love it!!
those are great resolutions. I would so read your chick lit books on your list. There all super good! Especailly someting borrowed and than you can get somehting blue and read that one right away! I love those books! Almost as much as I love yours! I still remember where I picked up your first, in Croatia on my holiday to Europe! (english addition)
Good luck with all those resolutions! I think I may add that stop avoiding one too!
Good luck with your New Year's resolutions. I always seem to make them and never keep them.
So....it has been three days...have you stuck to any of them?
tee hee!!
I said I was going to eat better. 1 and a half minutes after midnight I was eating ice cream. Well....at least I lasted a minute.
JUST FINISHED READING "20 TIMES A LADY" !!! Ok, i apologize, did NOT mean to capitalize all that :) FANTASTIC NOVEL definitely on my top 100 list of faves... Just kIDDING! it's without a doubt one of my top 10s!
ANYWAY- I am completely with you on "STOP AVOIDING" b/c it DOES hurt me n the long run... sigh...
Happy 2007, everyone!
and THANKS to Karyn for lightening up my heavy mood :)
Smashed was definitely a good read, and one I would read again. Not sure if that's good or bad...
Oh boy, I am really thinking I should start a list...
Twenty Times A Resolution maybe!?
Happy New Year!
My New Years resolution is 1024x768!
I'm also on the "look put together when I leave the house" kick. That and losing weight (I'm down 8 pounds so far this year!)
Just a quick recommendation. I've compared 20 Times to Bitter is the New Black - you guys have similar writing styles. Start with that one, it's a quick easy read.
Happy New Year!
A long way Down is brilliant, Smashed is one of my favorite books of all time, but don't waste your time on Queen of the Oddballs. I ended up giving up half way through, if I wanted to hear someone brag about how they singlehandedly saved humanity by being the first of everything good I'd just talk to my mother.
Hi! I'm reading your book and it's awesome!!!
You must read Marley and Me. I read it for free last year when I was a receptionist for H&R Block in a Walmart. You'll laugh, you'll cry, blah, blah, blah.
Eve in Oregon
You must read Bitter is the New Black!! Jenn Lancaster is kick ass!
Smashed= amazing
A Long Way Down= own, but haven't started
Bitter is the New Black= very curious.
