20 Times News, Third Book, Paying It Forward

So, the galleys (uncorrected proofs) of the new book have gone out to press and my publicist is setting up interviews, etc. Rachel Kramer Bussel - writer, editor, sex columnist, reading series host, cupcake lover, comedy fan - will be interviewing me for the Village Voice closer to when the book comes out. However, she already read the book and wrote on her blog that she "devoured Karyn Bosnak's hilarious, fun and fast-paced forthcoming novel 20 Times a Lady..." Yay! It's not an official review, but it's still excitng to hear. You can click here for her blog, Lusty Lady. Warning to conservatives: she is a free-spirited sex columnist. (And I commend her for it.)

In other news, in addition to writing the screenplay for 20 Times a Lady for New Line, I'm also writing a teen book for HarperCollins. It was announced yesterday in Publishers Lunch, a publishing industry newsletter:

CHILDREN'S: YOUNG ADULT
Karyn Bosnak's BEAUTY QUEEN, a girl crush novel set against the surreal backdrop of teen beauty pageants, to Amanda Maciel at Harper Children's, by Jennifer Unter at RLR Associates (world).

Anyway, so exciting things are happening for me! Gosh, to think all of this started because I owed $20,000! Just so you all know, as soon as I get paid for the screenplay, I'm donating every red cent that I received to pay off my debt to charity. I've been donating ever since I got my first book deal, but I haven't come close to $20,000 yet. People have the misconception that because I'm a published author I must be rolling in dough, but it's quite the opposite. For the past couple of years I've been making much, much less money than I ever did as a TV producer. However, I'm SO MUCH HAPPIER because I'm doing something I love. From the bottom of my heart I thank each and every person who helped me get to where I am. Whether you gave me a dollar or not, bought my book or not, I appreciate the support that people from around the world have given me. Pay it forward, pay it forward...

I'll keep you informed on the donating front. I'm thinking Katrina, a cancer charity (in memory of my Aunt Carol), and maybe UNICEF. I should give to one global charity because it wasn't just Americans who helped me. (Maybe an animal charity, too, because Elvis was such a big hit.) So anyway, that's what I'm thinking.

Hi Karyn,
For the cancer donation, how about specifically for lung cancer? I know most people and myself included used to think that lung cancer was brought on by the person because they smoked. However, Dana Reeve is a prime example that is not the case for everyone. More and more non-smoking lung cancer cases are coming up, mostly in young women and they don't have the adequate funds to research why. I saw a young thirty something woman on my local (Chicago) news this morning who has survived 5 years since her diagnosis and is still receiving treatment that says lung cancer is at the bottom of the donation list for all cancers. So, if possible, when you pay it forward in your Aunt's name please consider lung cancer.
Thanks, love the new website.

Karyn....I'm sooo excited for you and all the great things that are happening to you....yeah, going into debt got the ball rolling...but I'm a big believer in destiny and how everything happens for a reason. You are so lucky to find your calling in life and to be happy..even if it means less money. Like they say, "Find something you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life"....or something like that! :)
I just recently got a new job working for a non-profit in community relations...which I love, love, love...I've never been poorer but I've also never been happier!!! ...okay, I'm not that poor...but my friends all make more money than me...but I'm the only one who looks forward to going to work...it's called PASSION!! I will raise my green apple martini glass to you at tomorrow's happy hour!! :)
CONGRATULATIONS KARYN...YOU DESERVE THIS SUCCESS...ENJOY IT!....(cause lord knows you paid your dues).

I donated a dollar and bought your book (and will likely buy your new one), and I couldn't be happier for you -- Congrats!

Because it can't be said enough... RKB kicks SO much ass.

BTW, kudos on the three-peat! Been a fan for a while and have enjoyed/been inspired by your success. Quick question, though - if I buy a teen book as an adult, is the government going to put me on the list? (Regardless, I'll take that chance.)

So, can I get an advanced copy of your book. Or can you at least autograph it for me, when I buy it?

What about interviewing with Matt again? Won't he be dissapointed if you don't give him the first interview? :o)

I am so proud of you! You are a strong woman and making a place in the world. Everyone should strive to accomplish that. You inspire people.

the KATRINA fund is definitly a good cause. I lost everything--including 2 copies I had of your book (loved it!!!). Even almost 8 months later things are not better, esp in ST. Bernard parish which took the direct hit. The entire parish/county was flooded. Just don't hear much about it b/c it is the suburbs of New Orleans. I was able to get another copy on E-Bay (the way I am replacing most of the things I lost). Looking forward to the new book!!
